10. Procurement, Construction and O&M Risk Alerts
1. Mixing flange systems (AWWA/EN/ASME) causes bolt-circle/gasket mismatch—standardize or use converters.
2. Missing NSF/ANSI 61/372 or local approvals leads to acceptance failure.
3. Using 304/316 in NaOCl lines causes rapid SCC—switch to CPVC/PVDF/FRP or 2205/2507 with temperature/chlorine limits.
4. No CP on buried steel—failure possible even with 3LPE/FBE; include insulating joints and CP.
5. No vacuum check on FRP—risk of collapse under negative pressure; design for vacuum or provide protection.
6. Stainless cross-contamination/no passivation—pitting risk; use dedicated tools and document A380/A967.

Water Treatment Steel(including pipes, fittings, flanges and structural)|Technical Specifications
0) Critical Errata and Boundary Clarifications
1. PVC consolidation: AWWA C905 (large-diameter PVC) has been consolidated into AWWA C900. If “C905” appears, the specification and PO shall state “C900 latest edition governs.”
2. Waterworks vs O&G: Municipal/plant water transmission and distribution should follow AWWA/EN waterworks standards (e.g., AWWA C200, EN 10224). API 5L / ASME B31.4 / B31.8 are oil & gas pipeline standards and must not be used as generic purchase bases for waterworks; if applied locally, add potable compliance, internal lining/coating and NDE clauses.
3. Potable/reuse compliance: All materials, coatings and adhesives in contact with drinking/reclaimed water shall hold valid NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 evidence (or WRAS/ACS/KIWA/KTW-BWGL as applicable) with batch traceability.
4. Strong oxidants (Cl₂/NaOCl/O₃/ClO₂): 304/316 stainless are prone to pitting/SCC in free chlorine/oxidants. Prefer CPVC/PVDF/FRP or duplex 2205/2507; if metal is used, limit temperature & residual chlorine, eliminate crevices/stagnation and state measures in drawings/specs.
5. Do not mix flange systems: AWWA C207 (Class B/D/E/F) and ASME B16.5/16.47 (Class)/EN 1092 (PN) are not interchangeable. Where interconnection is required, list transition pieces and facing types in the design/spec.
6. FRP under vacuum: FRP lines subject to negative pressure or vacuum cleaning shall be vacuum-rated (AWWA C950 or vendor curves); otherwise collapse may occur.
7. Buried steel: coating ≠ CP: High-grade external coatings (FBE/3LPE/3LPP) do not replace cathodic protection. Provide insulating joints and CP system, with commissioning records.
8. Hygienic adhesives & elastomers: PVC/CPVC solvents/primers must meet NSF/ANSI 61 and ASTM D2564 / F493 / F656; select gaskets/elastomers compatible with water and oxidants.
