1) Overview
Oil & gas fields operate under high pressure, sour service (H₂S), CO₂, chlorides, high/low temperature, and severe corrosion. Wellheads, Christmas trees, gathering lines, processing plants, and transmission pipelines require materials with high strength, sour service resistance, CO₂ resistance, cryogenic toughness, and weldability.

1. Carbon Steel
• Pipes: ASTM A106 Gr.B/C, API 5L (X42–X70); used for gathering pipelines, water injection lines, air lines, low-pressure steam.

• Fittings: Butt-weld elbows, tees, reducers → ASTM A860 WPHY42/52.
