1. Positioning and Scope
Stainless steel welded pipes and tubes cover a wide range of duties from utility to severe‑service: pressure or non‑pressure, ambient to high temperature, chloride‑bearing, acidic/alkaline media, sanitary and ultra‑high‑purity. Manufacture includes formed strip/plate + automatic welding (GTAW, PAW, laser) or electric‑fusion welding (EFW), followed by solution annealing, weld cold‑working where required, and pickling/passivation. Pipes use NPS × Schedule; tubes use OD × WT with tolerance grades.

4. Size Range and Tolerances
· Pipe (A312/A790/B619 etc.): NPS 1/8–30 standard (5S/10S thin walls; 40S/80S common). Large‑OD heavy‑wall EFW to ASTM A358/A928 for very large diameters—confirm limits with manufacturer.
· Tube (A249/A269/A270/A789/B626): OD ~6–168 mm, WT 0.5–5 mm, length 6/12 m.
· Dimensional systems: Pipes per ASME B36.19 (stainless), interfaces with ASME B36.10.
· For EN/ISO projects using stainless steel tubes (metric series), dimensions and tolerances follow EN ISO 1127 (D-classes for OD, T-classes for WT, straightness and ovality levels to be specified in the PO).
• For ASTM/ASME projects:
(1) Pipe: dimensional series per ASME B36.10/B36.19; tolerances per ASTM A999 (e.g., ASTM A312 follows A999).
(2) Tube: tolerances per ASTM A1016 (applicable to ASTM A213, A269, A270, A789, etc.).
(3) Sanitary: per ASME BPE or EN 10357.
(4) Waterworks large-diameter: per AWWA C200.
Editions and selections shall be locked in the purchase order; avoid cross‑system mixing.
5. Manufacturing and Key Controls
· Forming & welding: Plate/strip forming + GTAW/PAW/laser for automatic welding; EFW (A358/A928) for large‑OD heavy‑wall. A312 requires automatic welding, typically without filler; A358/A928 are EFW classes.
· Weld conditioning & heat treatment: A249 mandates weld cold‑working (roller/planishing) then solution anneal; austenitic and most Ni‑alloys solution‑annealed ≥1040 °C and quenched; duplex requires phase control, avoiding σ‑phase.
· Surface & cleanliness: Pickling/passivation per ASTM A380/A967; sanitary/BPE or EN 10357 to declare Ra and cleanliness targets.
6. Quality, Testing and Documentation
· General: Pipe to ASTM A999; Tube to ASTM A1016. Hydrostatic or full‑length ECT/UT (or both) per contract.
· NDE: UT per ASTM E213; ECT per ASTM E426/E570; nickel alloys may use ASTM E571; EFW welds to A358/A928 Class‑specified RT/UT coverage.
· Mechanical & process tests: A249 requires flattening, flaring, reverse‑bend and hardness tests.

7. Supply Forms and Packaging
Fixed lengths 6 m or 12 m with end caps; pickled/passivated ID/OD. Sanitary/UHP can be SF1 or SF4 electropolished with clean packaging. Large‑OD EFW supplied in sections with prepared bevels and site weld recommendations.

9. Risks and “Do/Don’t”
· Do not substitute A312 for duplex pressure pipes—use A790/A928.
· A778 is only for non‑severe service; do not use in stringent pressure/corrosion duties.
· Sanitary orders must state ASME BPE/EN 10357 Ra/SF and weld conditioning—”sanitary” alone is insufficient.
· Skipping A249 weld cold‑work + solution anneal severely reduces corrosion resistance。
· Avoid 316L in seawater/high‑Cl⁻; choose 2205/2507/6Mo.
· Nickel orders should include B775/B751/B829 general requirements to avoid delivery gaps.

Stainless Welded Pipes & Tubes|Technical Specifications
Scope: Welded Pipes (NPS × Schedule) and Tubes (OD × WT × tolerance) made from stainless steel strip/plate by automatic welding (GTAW/PAW/Laser/ERW/EFW). Covers austenitic, ferritic/martensitic, duplex/super duplex, and nickel & nickel-alloy systems. For pressure and non-pressure service, heat-exchangers/condensers/boilers, sanitary and hygienic service, seawater/desalination, chemical and general mechanical applications.
1) Definitions
• Pipe: pressure service, sized by ASME B36.19M (stainless, incl. 5S/10S/40S/80S) or B36.10M if applicable.
• Tube: HX/boiler/sanitary/instrumentation, sized by ISO 1127 (OD/WT tolerances).
2) Codes & Product Standards (Pipe vs Tube; austenitic, duplex, nickel; incl. GB & EN/DIN)
2.1 Pipes (Pressure)
• Austenitic:
ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312 (autogenous automatic weld + solution anneal; A999 general req).
ASTM A358 / SA-358 (large OD/Thk EFW, Class 1–5 RT/UT levels).
ASTM A778 (“as-welded” austenitic for non-stringent pressure/corrosion).
• Duplex/Super Duplex:
ASTM A790 / SA-790 (SMLS/Welded duplex pipes).
ASTM A928 / SA-928 (duplex EFW pipes, large OD/Thk; Classed).
• Nickel & Ni-Alloys:

Use the correct spec: Duplex pipes → A790/A928 (not A312); duplex tubes → A789. Nickel alloy pipes/tubes per B619/B705 and B626/B704/B725 (+ B775/B751/B829).
4) Manufacturing & Process Controls
• Forming/Welding: Roll/form → GTAW/PAW/Laser; large OD/Thk EFW (A358/A928). A312 typically autogenous automatic welding; A358/A928 allow filler (EFW).
• Weld conditioning: A249 mandates cold-working of the weld (roller expansion/planishing) before solution anneal; sanitary tubes may require ID bead removal & polishing.
• Heat treatment: Austenitic & most Ni-alloys ≥1040 °C solution anneal + rapid quench; duplex requires phase balance (avoid sigma/secondary phases); stress-relief for tight bends/U-bends when specified.
• Cleaning/Passivation: ASTM A380/A967; for sanitary per ASME BPE/EN 10357 with SF1/SF4 and Ra limits.
5) Dimensions & Tolerances
• Pipes: common NPS 1/8–30 (B36.19M 5S/10S/40S/80S); A358/A928 EFW up to ~110” OD subject to mill capability.
• Tubes: typical OD 6–168 mm, WT 0.5–5 mm, L 6/12 m.
• Sanitary: ASME BPE / EN 10357 surface finish & Ra (e.g., SF1/SF4).
